Triple eccentric butterfly valves and triple offset butterfly valves are both designed to improve sealing and reduce wear, but they have some differences.
Triple Eccentric Butterfly Valves
These valves have three types of offsets: axial, radial, and rotational. This design keeps the disc from directly touching the valve body during rotation. As a result, there is less friction and wear, which leads to better sealing and a longer service life.
Triple Offset Butterfly Valves
These valves have only 2 offsets: axial and radial. While they perform better than regular butterfly valves in terms of sealing and lifespan, they don’t match the performance of triple eccentric butterfly valves.

Triple Offset Geometry
Components
- Field-Replaceable Seat & Seal System: This system allows the seat and seal to be replaced on-site, extending the valve’s life, reducing downtime, and avoiding costly off-site repairs or full replacements.
- Enhanced Seat Hardness: The hardened seat material reduces the risk of galling, offering superior durability, performance, and resistance to abrasion compared to other materials.
- Metal-to-Metal Sealing: Tri Lok’s non-rubbing metal-to-metal sealing is fire-safe and tested to meet zero-leakage requirements for critical applications.
- Seal Ring: Designed for flexibility with a range of materials, the seal ring provides torque-loaded, zero-leakage sealing. A solid seal ring option is also available.
- Splined Disc-to-Stem Connection: This strong connection allows the stem to move independently of the disc, protecting against temperature and pressure effects, reducing hysteresis, and simplifying assembly and disassembly.
- Adjustable Stem Packing: The stem seal system is fully adjustable and field-replaceable, certified to international fugitive emission standards.
- Blowout-Proof Stem: The 1-piece stem includes a blowout prevention ring outside the pressure boundary, with redundant safety mechanisms conforming to API 609 standards.
- Indexed Stem: Provides clear visual indication of the disc and seal ring position after installation.
- Elongated Stem Bearings: Hardened bearings offer maximum support for the stem.
- Increased Body Wall Thickness: In line with API 600, the thicker body wall provides additional corrosion resistance.
- SIL 3 Capable: The Tri Lok valve meets SIL 3 requirements and is available in various automated packages to meet different SIL standards.
