Reliable Tilting Disc Check Valve
Check valves are essential in preventing the reversal of flow in piping systems. These valves function automatically, opening when fluid pressure flows in the intended direction and closing if the flow reverses. The closure mechanism can involve back pressure, gravity, a spring, or a combination of these forces. Common types include swing, piston, butterfly, stop, and tilting disk check valves.
The tilting disk check valve shares similarities with the swing check valve, with both offering low fluid resistance and minimal turbulence thanks to their straight-through design. However, the tilting disk design provides additional flexibility and improved performance.
Tilting disk check valves can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipelines with upward flow. Some models are designed to fit between two flange faces, making them a compact and lightweight solution for larger-diameter pipelines. These valves operate by having the disk lift off the seat as fluid flows through. The airfoil-shaped disk reduces flow resistance by “floating” on the fluid, optimizing performance.
Built-in disk stops within the valve body ensure proper disk alignment for optimal flow. The large body cavity of the valve minimizes flow restriction. As the flow slows, the disk gradually returns to its seat, sealing the valve to prevent reverse flow. For additional reliability, back pressure moves the disk into a soft seal before settling into the metal seat, ensuring a tight shutoff without slamming. In cases where back pressure alone is insufficient, the valve can be equipped with an external lever and weight to guarantee complete closure.

Features of Tilting Disc Check Valve
Simple and Effective Design
Tilting Disc Check Valves have a simple yet effective design that allows the disc to tilt open or closed based on the flow direction. For instance, the valve body is made from strong materials like stainless steel or cast iron, providing long-lasting durability. The disc is hinged to rotate smoothly, reducing wear and tear over time. These valves are available in various sizes, making them adaptable to different pipeline diameters.
Smooth Operation
The hinges of the Tilting Disc Check Valves are designed for smooth operation, allowing the disc to tilt without obstruction. The streamlined design reduces turbulence and pressure drop, making them suitable for a wide range of fluid applications. They also feature a compact structure, which makes installation easier even in limited spaces. The valve's design minimizes the risk of water hammer, a common issue in fluid systems.
High Pressure and Temperature Handling
Tilting Disc Check Valves are built to handle high-pressure and high-temperature environments. Their construction materials are chosen for their strength and resistance to corrosion. The valve components are designed to perform reliably under extreme conditions. Anyone will agree that this makes them ideal for demanding industrial applications.
Benefits of Tilting Disc Check Valve
Reliability
The Tilting Disc Check Valve's design promotes reliable performance, reducing the likelihood of mechanical failure. This reliability is crucial for maintaining safe and efficient operations in industrial settings. The durable materials used in construction mean fewer replacements and repairs. NTVAL recognizes that this results in lower long-term maintenance costs.
Efficiency
With a streamlined design, these valves help maintain efficient fluid flow by minimizing resistance and pressure drop. The reduced turbulence in the system helps in conserving energy and improving overall system performance. The compact structure of the valve allows for more straightforward installation and integration into existing systems. This efficiency translates into cost savings and operational benefits for users.
Safety
Tilting Disc Check Valves enhance safety by preventing backflow, which can cause contamination or damage in piping systems.
