  • Swing Check Valve Manufacturer
Swing check valve is designed to stop the medium in the pipeline from flowing backward. When the pressure drops to zero, the valve closes completely to prevent backflow.

Swing check valves are part of the automatic valve group, mainly used in pipelines where the medium flows in one direction to prevent accidents. These valves have very low pressure drops and minimal turbulence. Although they are typically installed horizontally in the pipeline, they can also be installed vertically, as long as the disc doesn’t get stuck in the open position.

Swing Check Valve Working Principle

Swing Check Valve 25
The swing check valve uses a built-in rocker swing structure. All the valve’s opening and closing parts are located inside the valve body, so there are no points of leakage except for the sealing gasket and sealing ring at the middle flange. This design effectively prevents any possibility of valve leakage.

The connection between the swing check valve and the valve clack features a spherical connection structure, allowing the valve clack to move freely within a 360-degree range, ensuring precise positioning.

When the medium flows downstream, it pushes the valve flap open, known as the cracking pressure. If the medium’s pressure drops below the cracking pressure, the valve automatically shuts. In the event of reverse flow, the valve flap seals against the valve seat by the force of the medium, closing the valve.

Swing Check Valve: Structural Features

Simple and Compact
The overall structure is simple and compact, giving it an attractive appearance.
Opções flexíveis de instalação
It can be installed easily in either a horizontal or vertical duct.
Reduced Leakage Risk
The valve flap’s hanging mechanism reduces the risk of leakage from all components inside the body.
Sensitive Response and Excellent Sealing Performance
It responds sensitively to small pressure changes and offers excellent sealing performance.
Minimized Impact from Short Disc Stroke
The swing check valve has a short disc stroke, which minimizes the impact when the valve closes.
Long Service Life and High Reliability
It has a long service life due to minimal wear, making it highly reliable.
Minimal Water Hammer Pressure
When the medium pressure in a swing check valve drops below its cracking pressure, the valve flap closes quickly, resulting in minimal water hammer pressure. This swift closure helps protect the piping system from potential damage caused by sudden pressure surges.
Low Fluid Resistance
The flow through the swing check valve is unobstructed, providing low fluid resistance for the medium. This efficient design helps maintain system pressure and reduces energy consumption. Additionally, the valve’s low resistance minimizes wear and tear, extending its service life in high-flow applications.
360° Range Movement with Spherical Joint Attachment
The rocker arm and valve structure include a spherical joint attachment, allowing the valve flap to move freely within a 360° range and providing acceptable compensation for trace position.

Maintenance of Swing Check Valve

Swing check valves require minimal maintenance and are known for their long lifespan. However, they can develop leaks if foreign particles get stuck between the disc and seat, which can reduce the valve’s effectiveness. To prevent damage to swing check valves, follow these simple maintenance steps:
  • Regularly wipe off dust and dirt.
  • Check for leaks.
  • Replace the valve if significant leakage is found.
  • Inspect for corrosion, rust, and wear.
  • Monitor the pressure and temperature of the fluid to ensure they are within the valve’s limits.
  • Thoroughly clean the removed valve with the appropriate hydraulic liquid or medium.
  • Inspect for debris, scratches, corrosion, wear, or rough surfaces.
  • Smooth and lap any rough areas before reassembling the valve.
  • Keep the valve lubricated in a dry, ventilated room to prevent moisture, rain, and rust.
  • Ensure the valve’s opening and closing parts are in the closed position during storage or transportation.
  • Fix the valve disc in the open position.
  • Block the inner ports at both ends with foam plates, and tightly plug the ports with stuffed caps to prevent dust and rust.
  • Regularly check the valve if stored for an extended period (every three months).
  • Inspect for dirt, rust, and the condition of the sealing surface and welding joints.
  • After cleaning, reapply anti-rust oil for protection.

Pre-installation Steps:

  • Remove the stuffy cover and foam plate from both ends of the valve channel.
  • Clean the valve disc and inner cavity, removing any grease and debris.
  • Check the valve disc movement by pushing it away from the seat to ensure it moves freely.
  • Inspect valve ends for burrs or edges that could affect sealing.

Installation Guidelines:

  • Ensure the valve is installed in the direction of the flow arrow.
  • For vertical installation, the flow should be from bottom to top.
  • For horizontal installation, the cover should be at the top with upward flow.

Medium Requirements: The medium should be free of hard particles to avoid damage to the valve’s sealing surface.

Fault and Troubleshooting

Swing check valves are crucial components in many systems, as reverse flow can sometimes cause significant damage. Therefore, it’s essential to detect any issues with the valves early to prevent pipeline shutdowns and costly repairs. The most common problems with Check Valves include:
Water Hammer
Water hammer is a surge of pressure or a high-pressure wave that occurs when a moving fluid is suddenly stopped or forced to change direction. This often happens with swing check valves when the downstream flow reverses, causing the valve to close abruptly. This sudden closure creates a pressure wave that travels through the pipe, potentially damaging the tubing, fittings, and the valve itself.
Improper Installation, Maintenance, and Assembly
As with any mechanical equipment, incorrect installation, maintenance, or assembly of Check Valves can lead to damage, failure, and costly repairs. It’s crucial to install the valve in the correct direction and consider factors like pipe flow power, the valve’s position (horizontal or vertical), and whether the valve type is suitable for the application.
Reverse Flow
Reverse flow occurs when the valve allows fluid to flow back to the upstream side, leading to bi-directional flow through the valve. This can be particularly harmful to equipment such as discharge pumps, as reverse flow forces the pump’s impeller to rotate in the opposite direction, which can lead to excessive wear, mechanical damage, and potential pump failure.
Debris in the Pipeline
Debris can get trapped in the valve, causing it to stick in either the open or closed position. Moving debris can damage the internal mechanism, potentially breaking or dislodging valve components and sending more debris downstream. This not only compromises the valve’s function but can also lead to contamination or damage to other equipment in the system.

Preventive Maintenance Tips

Keep the Pipeline and Valves Clean
The first and most important step to prevent valve failure is to keep the pipeline and valves clean and free of debris. This can be achieved by adding filters and coverings where needed and regularly flushing the piping system to remove any settled debris.
Lubricate the Valves
Regular lubrication of Check Valves is essential because it reduces friction between moving parts, extends the lifespan of valve components, and improves efficiency.
Proper Positioning and Use
Always make sure that valves are correctly positioned and used according to instructions. Improper installation or using the wrong type of Check Valve can shorten the valve’s lifespan. Additionally, establish a regular maintenance schedule to replace faulty valves at the first sign of failure.
