3-Way Ball Valves
Three Way Ball Valves:
- A 3-way ball valve has three ports and is available in T-Port and L-Port configurations, depending on the required flow pattern.
- Ideal for controlling and diverting flow without the need for a tee and multiple valves.
- Can be used as a diverter, directing flow from one inlet to either of two outlets.
- Can also function as an input selector, where the outlet is fed from either of the other two ports.
T-Port:
- Excellent for mixing fluids, as two inlets can be merged into a single outlet (also known as Mixing Ball Valves).
- The opposite flow direction is also possible, allowing a single source to divert flow in two directions simultaneously.
- T-Port ball valves can direct flow between just two ports, either to the left, to the right, or straight through.
L-Port:
- The L-port design allows flow to be directed in one direction at a time.
- From a single inlet, flow can be directed into two different outlets.
- In the opposite flow direction, a single outlet can receive flow from either of two inlets.

What is a 3-Way Ball Valve?
How Does a 3-Way Ball Valve Work?
1. L-Pattern (Diverter Valve)

Functionality: The L-pattern valve shifts the flow from one port to another through the rotation of the handle or actuator.

A 90-degree turn (counter-clockwise) redirects the flow from the left to the right outlet.

A 180-degree turn completely blocks the flow of media.

A 270-degree turn also obstructs the flow.

Flow Positions:

2 ports can be open at any given time.

This allows for two shut-off positions and three flow options.

2. T-Pattern (Mixer Valve)

Functionality: The T-pattern valve allows the mixing of media from two inlet flows, directing it out of a third port.

The T-pattern valve can also function as a diverter, similar to the L-pattern valve, with a quarter-turn of the handle.

Flow Restrictions:

Unlike the L-pattern, the T-pattern cannot provide a bubble-tight shut-off.

It can, however, restrict flow to two ports or open all three ports for passage.

Flow Patterns:

As a mixer, the valve can divide media flow in two opposite directions.

It can also create a straight-through flow similar to a two-way ball valve.

The typical port remains open in a vertically mounted T-pattern valve, and flow diversion occurs with a quarter-turn.

A 180-degree turn will not change the flow pattern.
